Dont Fear the Reaper

i listened to "Dont Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult on my ipod the other day and realised that the song is about a guy trying to talk his girlfriend into commiting suicide. i thought it was just promoting ambivalence towards death (which is healthy i'd say) but i dont like it anymore. my other thought on death is that death itself isnt scary- but things that are dead are. Put that in your quote book, Penguin.

Well, if Romeo and Juliet are together in eternity, well, that's so sweet, so romantic, so secure, oh, aaaaaaaaalright then...

All our times have come
Here but now they're gone
Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind the sun or the rain (we can be like they are)
Come on baby (don't fear the reaper)
Baby take my hand (don't fear the reaper)
We'll be able to fly (don't fear the reaper)
Baby I'm your man
La-la-la-la-la-la-la la-la-la-la-la-la-la

Valentine is done
Here but now they're gone
Romeo and Juliet Are together in eternity (Romeo and Juliet)
40,000 men and women everyday (like Romeo and Juliet)
40,000 men and women everyday (redefine happiness)
Another 40,000 coming everyday (we can be like they are)
Come on baby (don't fear the reaper)
Baby take my hand (don't fear the reaper)
We'll be able to fly (don't fear the reaper)
Baby I'm your man
La-la-la-la-la-la-la la-la-la-la-la-la-la

Love of two is one
Here but now they're gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear that she couldn't go on
Then the door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew and then disappeared
The curtains flew and then he appeared (saying don't be afraid)
Come on baby (and she had no fear)
And she ran to him (then they started to fly)
They looked backwards and said goodbye (she had become like they are)
She had taken his hand (she had become like they are)
Come on baby (don't fear the reaper)

This interpretation disturbes me, In fact I'm ALMOST MAD! This says more about you than anything because you see what you want to see. It makes me sad to see that you think it's suicide though. There are so many things that the lyrics could symbolize.

My interpretation is:

Ihat it is a divine love story about a girl's fear of death and a boy comes along and removes her fears and despair that comes with it by being her 'Romeo' (the light in the dark)... Just look at "The candles blew and then he appeared saying dont be afraid, and she had no fear and she ran to him they were starting to fly"

"40,000 men and women everyday" are becoming a happy love couple like Romeo and Julet.

True love people!!
